Explore, Learn, Innovate: VR and AR Transforming Education
Hey there! Have you ever tried virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality (AR)? They're both pretty cool but in different ways. VR lets you dive into entirely new worlds and manipulate objects like you're really there (American College of Education, 2021a). AR, on the other hand, adds a virtual twist to the world you see every day, like putting digital info right on top of real-life things (American College of Education, 2021b). Imagine seeing digital recipes right above your cooking pot!
Now, let's talk about a college in Jamaica, Bethlehem Moravian College (BMC). I'm thinking VR and AR could shake things up a bit in some of their programs like Information Technology, Business and Computer Science, and Hospitality and Tourism Management.
For the tech-savvy folks in the Information Technology program, they could use VR to create fake networks. Sounds odd, right? But it's a safe way to practice fixing problems without breaking anything in the real world.
In the Business and Computer Science field, AR could make learning a blast by turning those tricky 3D business models and computer designs into something you can actually see and touch. Imagine walking around a virtual business process!
And for the future hoteliers and world travelers in the Hospitality and Tourism Management program, how about taking virtual trips to famous hotels and tourist spots? No passport needed, just a VR headset.
But wait, this doesn't just happen with a snap of the fingers. To make this dream a reality at BMC, they'll need some gadgets like VR headsets and AR glasses, the right software, some teacher training, and of course, a bit of cash to pull it all together.
Pretty
cool, right? If you want to dive deeper, check out the video below:
